LINGUA FRANCA

it started with a stitch.

Rachelle, the founder of LF, had no grand plan, no big idea. She was just looking for a way to burn off some anxiety and turned to embroidery. She picked up an old cashmere sweater, a needle, and thread, and LF was born. It started as a small line of sustainably sourced, fair trade luxury cashmere sweaters, all hand-stitched by women in NYC. Today, they’ve expanded to include several categories of hand-embroidered items and lifestyle accessories.

As the company transitioned from a few sweaters a year to a full-blown cultural phenomenon, I worked with the LF team to translate the spirit of their trademark hand-stitched aesthetic and “give a damn.” mantra to retail design, in-store collateral, lifestyle amenities packaging, and live events at the flagship West Village location.

tiny pricks project.

Tiny Pricks Project is a collection of vintage textiles stitched with tweets and quotes from Donald Trump—creating a material record of his presidency and the movement against it.

I worked with a team of producers to design a system to cover the entire store from floor to ceiling with each of the hundreds of handmade pieces, designed in-store collateral, and crafted the custom window treatment that allowed viewers to peek inside the world of tiny pricks.
